The Seattle Caucus warmly invites you and your partner, as well as your residents and fellows, to attend the 101st Annual Meeting of the North Pacific Surgical Association on November 14-15, 2014. The Scientific Sessions and sponsored exhibits are being held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in downtown Seattle.
The program committee, chaired by Dr. Kenneth Gow, has put together an excellent program. The 2014 scientific meeting will present clinical and scientific research papers in general surgery, oncology, trauma, education, pediatric surgery, quality and others. Our invited lecturer is Dr. Julie F. Freischlag, previously the William Stewart Halsted Professor, and Department Director and Surgeon-in-Chief at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions and currently Vice Chancellor for Human Health Sciences and Dean, School of Medicine at UC Davis. Her presentations are: “Clinical and Personal Comparative Effectiveness” and “Risky Business: Advance Your Career, Enhance Your Life”. We look forward to what will be a stimulating and interesting visit with Dr. Freischlag. In the Presidential Address, I will try to entertain and perhaps provoke you, with "A Surgeon's Reflections on Love."
Also on the program are panel presentations and discussion you won’t want to miss -- Surgical Innovation and Invention at Friday lunch, and the Surgical Pitfall Panel on Saturday afternoon. And we are pleased to present the Pediatric Surgery Satellite Symposium on Sunday morning of November 16th.
The local arrangements committee, chaired by Dr. Jeff Avansino, has organized an entertaining social program. On Friday night, murder and mayhem are afoot when audience and “others” run afoul in……. “The Dinner Detective”…… uhh, is that foie gras safe to eat?!! If you, yes YOU, are willing to be a victim or perp – let Chris know. And on Saturday night, dance to a legendary band that will dazzle and the most discerning.
Finally, let’s talk about the weather. You asked, “Why does it rain in the Pacific Northwest?” And we listened…….Cliff Mass, PhD, Professor, Department of Atmospheric Sciences, University of Washington, and maverick weatherman will explain it all to you over lunch on Saturday.
Be sure to register for the meeting and make hotel reservations on the NPSA website at www.nopacsurg.org.
I’m looking forward to seeing you all in November. Sincerely,
Bob Sawin, MD President, NPSA
