November 13 - 14, 2015 The Benson Hotel Portland, Oregon
To the members, residents, colleagues of the North Pacific Surgical Association:
On behalf of the Portland Caucus, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 102 nd Annual Meeting of the North Pacific Surgical Association in Portland, OR at the Benson Hotel, November 13th and 14th, 2015.
The Benson is the crown jewel and center of Portland, and the rates for this meeting are exceptional - just $149/night for a double room and $190 for a junior suite. The rates are good from 11/11 to 11/16 for those wishing to come early and/or stay through the weekend. You must reserve your room before October 22nd to get this special rate.
Our Visiting Professor and Founders Lecturer will be Dr. John Weigelt, Dean at the Medical College of Wisconsin and Director of SESAP. John has an encyclopedic knowledge of all aspects of general surgery curriculum, and should be a spectacular discussant. I have asked John to address us on topics related to recertification, CME, and SESAP.
Our Program Chairman Dr. Kim Lu is preparing a broad-based scientific program from our submitted abstracts, Dr. Weigelt’s expertise, and Virtu-OHSU, the surgical simulation lab here at OHSU. This year will once again feature on line MOC questions, so that attendees will earn both Category 1 CME and Self-Assessment Credits.
Local Arrangement Chairs Dan Herzig and Ron Wolf have been working to make this meeting extra-special. This year the luncheon speakers will be connected with the spouse/family program. A talk on Powell’s Bookstore, one of the world’s largest and most popular bookstores, will be followed by a walking tour to Powell’s (located just four blocks away!). Our luncheon talk by Portland’s “Bridge Lady” Sharon Wood Wortman (author of several books on Portland’s bridges) will be followed but a walking tour to the Morrison Bridge for a pier-level view of the lifting mechanism.
Friday night we will have a short bus drive to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) for a private reception, and Saturday night will bring the President’s Black Tie Gala. Please plan on staying with us Sunday morning for the Pediatric Surgery Symposium.
Whether you call it Stumptown, Bridgetown, or Rip City, Portland welcomes you to what we hope will be a great meeting. Plan now, bring the family, and we’ll see you there!
